9 arms dealers arrested after selling guns online.

The Crime Suppression Division (CSD) has arrested 9 arms dealers after inspecting 31 locations across the nation. These suspects are illegal arms dealers with a history of selling firearms on the internet. The mission was carried out by the special operations “Hanuman” unit from the CSD and the Office of Police Forensic Evidence. Officials with search warrants inspected 31 locations across the nation in Bangkok, Nonthaburi Province, Pathum Thani Province, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Sa Kaeo Province, Tak Province, Chonburi Province, Ratchaburi Province, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, and Surat Thani Province.

One of the main targets was a location inside a village in Bang Bua Thong District, Nonthaburi. Investigation revealed that Parinya, an arms dealer, was wanted with an arrest warrant for charges relating to illegal arms dealing and the distribution of illegal arms. Police Major General Jirapop Phuridech gave orders to Police Major Thatpor Laykawattanapong and other officials to search a location at 6 am on 18 June 2020 and discovered a 2 story townhouse. Officials surrounded the home before entering. Parinya was arrested on the spot. The suspect admitted that he has been selling guns online in a Line group but denies involvement in the production of firearms. Inside his home were 2 guns that were used to review the products.

The arrest is thanks to information about a Line group with gun sellers and buyers. These guns are made by the arms dealers often from BB gun parts. There are over 1,000 members in the group with Parinya as the main admin. Police carried out an undercover operation and went into the group which helped prove the information was true. Evidence was collected and submitted to the court in the request for a search warrant and an arrest warrant. Officials are continuing the investigation to find related persons in the group. Khaosod News has reported there have also been 8 more arrests of arms dealers in Thailand concerning this case, the names, and information of the suspects have not yet been reported.
