Bumper drug haul in Bangkok

POLICE seized as much as 10 million methamphetamine pills and 398 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) in Bangkok today (May 11) and arrested 6 members of a major drug gang, INN News reported.

National Police Chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda and Metropolitan Police Chief Pol Lt Gen Charnthep Sesavej said at a press briefing that the methamphetamine pills, or yaba, were found in 50 sacks while Ice in another 20 sacks during a raid in Soi Inthamara 36, with this haul being worth over 1 billion baht.

Investigation showed that the suspects were part of Northern Wa drug network, which had transported the drugs to be stored at Bangkok’s Chom Thong district, with some to be sold in the metropolis, while the rest to be sent south and then overseas.

The suspects’ duties had been systematically divided and they were paid different amounts, ranging from 70,000-300,000 baht.

Pol Gen  Chakthip also said there are around 5 major drug networks, with 3 of them being Northern Wa, Southern Wa and Hmong, that send drugs to the Central reigion.

He added that he has instructed police heads to implement measures to protect and stop all types of drug trafficking, and so far they have satisfactorily carried out their duties with arrests and seizures made regularly.
