Condos for ‘money-making’ birds

WITH the price of bird’s nests rising, investors in the Thai province of Phetchaburi are building ‘condominiums’ for the swifts, whose nests are made from their saliva.

A large number of consumers believe that the bird’s nests have medicinal qualities, even though scientific tests have proven that they contain nothing more than the bird’s saliva.

Trader Chawalit Sittichokekananond told Sanook.com that the bird’s nest business will continue to grow as a large number of consumers still believe that the bird’s nests can improve their health.
