Drive against illegal foreigners nets fake teachers

TOURIST Police searched 125 targeted areas, among them several schools, as part of their 10th nationwide X-ray Outlaw Foreigner sweep yesterday and rounded up 64 foreigners mainly for illegal entry, INN News reported this morning (May 4).

Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakphan, deputy chief of Tourist Police, said of the 125 locations searched this time , 7 were international schools, 15 language schools and 45 general schools, with the remainder being other establishments.

In the 24 such sweeps that have been launched so far, 3,372 targeted areas were searched and 1,088 suspects arrested.

Of the 64 foreigners arrested yesterday, 5 were charged with overstaying (1 Laotian, 1 Indian, 1 Vietnamese, 1 Russian and 1 from Myanmar), with the important one suspect being Ms Davone Khounssouvanh, 32, a Laotian who overstayed for 3,358 days.

A total of 51 suspects were held for illegal entry (30 from Myanmar, 10 Cambodia, 8 Laos, 1  India, 1 Vietnam and 1 Sierra Leon) with remaining 8 others being arrested on other charges.
