Elephants to pay respects to HM the late King

TEN elephants with beautiful tusks are training hard at the Elephant Palace and Royal Kraal in Ayuthaya to head to Bangkok to pay respects to the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej at the Grand Palace on Tuesday November 8, Thai News Agency said today.

The Elephant Palace and Royal Kraal’s manager Itthipan Kaolamai said these 10 elephants are going through intense training to be best prepared to travel to Bangkok to pay respects to His Majesty the late King at Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall within the Grand Palace next Tuesday especially Plai Wan who will lead His Majesty the late King’s white elephants.

According to the schedule on November 8 the elephants will leave Ayuthaya on pickup trucks at 4 a.m. and arrive at the Territorial Defense Command at 6 a.m. The elephants will be dressed in black battle gear and then accompanied by 200 mahouts will move out 9.09 a.m., go pass the Defense Ministry, and enter the Grand Palace to pay respects to His Majesty the late King and then return to Ayuthaya.
