FDA and CPPD discover fake herbal medicine warehouse.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) reported the discovery of a warehouse full of fake herbal medicine and supplements. The warehouse belongs to one of the biggest herbal product distributors in Chaiyaphum Province and Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

The FDA received complaints that there were fake “Khun Samrit” herbal products out on the market. Consumers have been purchasing the supplements believing that they are getting ingredients that are FDA approved when in truth the appearance may seem the same as the real branded products but the ingredients are unknown. Many of the fakes are found in Don Mueang, Bangkok and in the Northeastern Region of Thailand. Store owners also have to beware of where you’re purchasing wholesale products from, if the price seems too cheap to be true, then it probably is. Unlike fake clothes and handbags, fake medicine and supplements will take a direct effect on your health.

The FDA and the CPPD worked together and discovered that the big seller of the fake herbal products is located in Chaiyaphum. Officials went to inspect a warehouse in the main city of Chaiyaphum and received information that the products were being sold from another warehouse in Nakhon Ratchasima. The search discovered a large collection of fake herbal medicine, fake herbal supplements, and other herbal products.

The owner of the real brands has confirmed that all the products discovered in the warehouse are replicas. Officials also discovered fake cosmetics with unknown ingredients. There has been the discovery of similar fake cosmetics in the past with toxic ingredients such as mercury and high lead percentage. A total of 15,000 products have been seized worth at least 2 Million THB. The owner of the warehouses will be prosecuted accordingly. The herbal products and cosmetics will also be tested. Only purchase medicine, supplements, and cosmetics from trustable stores, there are fakes for almost everything in today’s world.
