Loud music causes bees to attack visitors in a temple.

Loud music being played in a temple during an ordination ceremony caused a bee attack. Visitors that were joining in the celebration ran in fear and some were stinged. Music is a normal part in an ordination ceremony held in Thailand but this time it might’ve been too loud and the bees couldn’t take it anymore. The person who is becoming a monk didn’t get to go inside the temple yet when the attack took place. The local rescue team went to the temple on 17 March 2023 located in Phimai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

The team received notification of the bee attack with many injured persons. One of them was a 72-year-old man. He was taken to the hospital where 45 stingers were removed. Adults, kids, and the elderly were all stinged in the ceremony. There are over 10 injured persons with many who had more than 10 bee stings. Together across all injured persons there were about 100 bee stings. Sompong, a villager and one of the visitors during the attack stated music was playing and the ceremony was not complete when the attack happened. The nest is located in front of the temple and they all flew down in furry.

Sompong believes the bees felt threatened from the loud music and had to protect the nest. This is a natural instinct and the vibrations from the loud music could have shaken their nest. No matter the reason, the bees must’ve felt the need to protect their home. As for the ordination ceremony, this incident might be interpreted as bad luck or bad omen but it is simply a natural instinct of the bees nearby. Bees rarely sting and will only feel the need to do so when they feel threatened. They also release a pheromone that lets other bees know that you are a threat. This is why some people had more than 10 stingers in their skin.
