Precaution taken after scary accident

Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) moved quickly to prevent a repeat of yesterday’s accident whereby a lifting frame being used to build the new green line fell and damaged two vehicles but fortunately there were no injuries, Thai News Agency said today (March 18) .

Italian-Thai Development Plc (ITD), the contractor, was told to change all its lifting frames and refund the owners of the two vehicles.

The accident occurred on the inbound lane of Phahonyothin road near Ratchayothin intersection where the green line running from Mo Chit to Saphan Mai and then Khu Khot is being built.

MRTA said on the night of Thursday March 16 until early Friday March 17 Ital-Thai Development which is handling the civil work of this route worked on raising the launching girder on this line’s pillars number 105 and 106 and was using a lifting frame to do so.

MRTA added that the accident occurred because the lifting frame was damaged on one side which led to it leaning, pulling and finally falling on the ground and then bouncing out of the construction zone and damaging the two vehicles on the adjacent traffic lane.

Not only has MRTA told ITD to change all its lifting frames the contractor also has to put a secondary measure in place to handle the situation should this equipment breakdown.

ITD is fully compensating the victims of this accident and is providing a car for them to use while theirs is being repaired and if the damage is very bad will replace them.
