Quack dentist lands in hot water

POLICE raided an illegal clinic in Chatuchak area of Bangkok and arrested a quake dentist who had been treating the general public for some time, Thai News Agency reported this morning (Oct 23, 2018).

Pol Maj-Gen Surachet Hakphan, as deputy director of Technology Crime Suppression police, sent a team of policemen to raid this clinic upon being tipped off by social media that it could be illegal.

The police team found that the clinic, based in a 3-storey building, was operating with a license that expired in December 2013, or around 5 years ago.

More disturbing was that Mr Kanin Butiya had been giving dental treatment to the public without any qualifications in this field.

Kanin now faces maximum 5 years in jail and a fine of not more than 100,000 baht under the Health Facility Act and 3 years imprisonment and a fine of not more than 30,000 baht under the Dental Profession Act.
