Rapist caught after 7 yrs in monkhood

A 27-year-old Buddhist monk was defrocked this afternoon (June 10, 2018) and taken to northeastern Sakon Nakhon provincial police station where he was charged with raping a young woman seven years ago, the Thai-language Daily News reported.

The suspect allegedly attacked the woman who lived next door to him at a dormitory in Sakon Nakhon in 2011. He ran away and entered the monkhood in Khon Kaen Province, also in the Northeast.

“I thought I had been forgiven for my misdeed after long years in the monkhood,” the suspect told the newspaper. “I was wrong.”
