Ripped off tourists may get a refund

FIVE tourists who were cheated by a tour company which failed to take them on an island-hopping cruise off Trang and Krabi coastal provinces after paying almost 20,000 baht each may get a refund as tourist police and Tourism Authority of Thailand have told this tour company to do so, Thai News Agency  said this morning (June 22).

Klinseesuk, 45, from Pathumthani together with four friends filed a complaint with Trang police after the tour operator failed to show up at their hotel to take them to Trang’s islands in accordance to the June 20-24 package tour they had bought.

Police were told that the five of them landed at Trang Airport on Tuesday June 20 and were taken on a tour as per the first day’s program before checking into the hotel.

However yesterday morning the tour operator did not show up and when reached on telephone was evasive which led the five of them to come to the police for help in getting a refund and preventing others from being similarly cheated.

Trang police said as the incident occurred in Bangkok they could only record the complaint and liaise with tourist police and Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) Krabi office to take care of them.

Ms Karuna Dejatiwong Na Ayuthaya, Trang’s TAT head, said now is the season to cruise in the Andaman Sea with this lasting from June 1 till July 31 and she has asked Trang Tourism Association to help the defrauded tourists and also liaised with  TAT Krabi office to help find a new package tour for the group.

She urged tourists to check the tour operator’s license before buying package tours.
