The Songkhla Zoo opened up a turtle show in the Reptiles Zone showing the turtles having the great feast of the year with unlimited turtle favorites to choose from. The main goal for the Songkhla Zoo turtle day activity is to help raise awareness to the people about land turtles and sea turtles that are decreasing in amount every year.

The important lesson here is that in the future we hope that it is still possible to see turtles naturally on the land and in the sea, somewhere that is not a zoo or a pet turtle habitat. The zoo prepared favorites of the turtle such as bell pepper, watermelon, apple, cactus flower, and more.

The zoo decided to let the turtles work a bit for their favorite choices by tieing the food to strings that are then hung down right above the turtles. The turtles slowly stretch their legs to stand up then attempt to catch the food with their mouth. Usually, the turtles in this zoo eat in a relaxed position, the exercise will make them work for their favorite food.

Some turtles showed the people how smart they can be by using their two front legs to hold onto the food, similar to how we use our hands to eat. In Thailand, there are 4 types of sea turtles, 1. Hawksbill Sea Turtle, 2. Chelonia Mydas, 3. Leatherback Turtle, and 4. Olive Ridley Sea Turtle. Some of the land turtles in Thailand include Yellow-Headed Temple Turtle, Asian Box Turtle, and the Giant Asian Pond Turtle.

The main reason for turtle deaths in Thailand comes from fishing and destroying their natural habitat. The turtles are also having a harder time to find a safe place to bury their eggs due to most locations have been turned into tourist attractions. It is now up to us whether turtles will exist in the future or not.
