Tap water in Bangkok ‘is safe’ for cooking

The Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (MWA) yesterday (May 11, 2020) confirmed that it is safe to use tap water to cook rice.

Its confirmation was in response to articles circulated in the Thai social media that tap water, if used to cook rice, may cause cancer to consumers.

Mr. Prinya Yamasamit, who is chief of the MWA, said the quality of its tap water has been checked by both internal and external organizations. Consumers can use the tap water to cook rice, with no risks to their health.
