Warning against eating stray pigeons

THE International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN’s) office in Bangkok today (May 4, 2018) warned Thai people to be careful before catching stray pigeons for food, the Thai-language Daily News reported.

The ICUN’s warning follows a report that the District Officer and Chief Livestock Official in the central Thai province of Lop Buri had encouraged the locals to catch stray pigeons in the city for food.

“Unlike birds in commercial farms which are strictly regulated, stray pigeons are not vaccinated, and they may carry contagious diseases,” said ICUN deputy chief Petch Manoprawit.
