5,000 join Thailand’s first durian fun run

IN the first such event ever to be held in this country, eastern coastal Chanthaburi province this time added a durian fun run to its Scenic Half Marathon 2018 race that took place yesterday (June 17, 2018), INN News reported.

The scenic marathon series is being held to promote sports tourism with races being held at picturesque routes with stunning views.

Runners got a chance to breathe in fresh air and enjoy the natural beauty of the route along Kung Vimarn beach. Those staying overnight visited some of this province’s attractions with these including the sea, mountains and waterfalls.

The race was divided into 4 as follows:

  • 21.1-kilometer half marathon under the theme of mangosteen, going through fields, orchards and a fishing village;
  • 10.55-kilometer mini marathon under rambutan theme;
  • 5-kilometer mini marathon under salak or snake fruit theme;
  • And for the first time ever a 3-kilometer fun run with runners having to carry 1 durian each and getting to take it home.

The Overall Men Champion was Thanvorn Wongkhan from the Ultimate team who came in first at the 21.1-kilometer half marathon at 1.30.16 hours.

The Overall Women’s Champion was Woraphan Nualsi who ran alone and covered the 21.1-kilometer distance in 1.33.15 hours.
