Top 5 spots to enjoy watching the fireworks in Phuket

THIS coming Sunday, we’ll be saying goodbye to a year, which we hope for you, was filled with a lot of excitement and good news, and be ready to welcome 2018 and its share of good fortune and prosperity it shall bring upon us.

While it is relatively easy to find a good restaurant on New Year’s Eve, you may be wondering where would be the best spot to chill, relax and enjoy watching the fireworks. Below is my top 5 for you, and as usual, feel free to share with us which venue you consider ideal in Phuket.

Patong Beach

Like every year, Patong Beach will be packed… really packed! But this is the place in Phuket that will showcase the biggest fireworks show, guaranteed! If you don’t mind being surrounded by thousands of tourists, all more or less slightly inebriated, then Patong is your best bet. You’ll find a crazy atmosphere like no other and hopefully make some new friends along the way.

Khao Rang

The largest hill in Phuket Town offers 360 degrees view over the city and the sea to the south and east of the island. It is a wonderful spot to watch fireworks from all direction, and is generally much quieter than Patong, as tourists tend not to know about this very local place. Perfect if you plan to watch the show with your family and do not want to be disturbed by the crazies.

Phuket Old Town

The official venue for celebrating New Year’s Eve in Phuket, as the government is organizing the Amazing Thailand Countdown 2018 in the heart of Phuket Old Town on Thalang Road. Plenty of shows will be organized before the countdown and you can trust Phuket Old Town to treat you with some delicious local food, should you get the munchies before reaching midnight.

Nai Harn Lake

Nai Harn

If celebrating on a beach is a must for you, but you can’t convince yourself to brave the horde of tourists staying in Patong, Nai Harn Beach and Nai Harn Lake are good compromises. Of course you won’t be alone on the white sands of one of Phuket’s most beautiful beaches, but you’ll get enough personal space to appreciate the activities and fireworks throughout the night.

Any beach club

Last but not least, reach out to your closest beach club. While the majority of them is located in the north of Phuket, you can still find some in Patong, Kata and even Chalong. Those beach clubs usually organize terrific events for New Year, with live entertainments, DJs and, of course, fireworks, too.
