12,000 liters of smuggled petrol seized

A TEAM of soldiers and Border Patrol Police raided in house in southern Phatthalung province and arrested a woman after finding 12,000 liters of smuggled petrol within the compound, Sanook.com reported today (June 13, 2018).

Investigation had showed that this house in Kong Ra district has been selling smuggled oil for 10 years and no arrests had ever been made.

However yesterday’s raid led to Ms Vasana, 47, being taken into custody and sent to Kong Ra police station for further investigation.

Oil usually smuggled to Songkhla’s Sadao district on the Thai-Malaysian border and then transported on pickup trucks via the Hat Yai-Phatthalung stretch of  Phetkasem highway to this province before being further distributed.

Moreover a group of illegal oil traders are transporting smuggled oil on at least 20 vehicles each day via Hat Yai-Nakhon Ratchasima route, Sanook.com said.

However while there are checkpoints, they are not stopped even though these vehicles do not have license plates and are driven very fast.
