THE Government has urged Thai people from all walks of life to perform good deeds to show loyalty to and to honor His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun on the occasion of his birthday anniversary, July 28, according to the Government Public Relations Department

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha stated that His Majesty has followed the footsteps of His Royal Parents – His Majesty King Rama IX and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. The Government has organized merit-making ceremonies and encouraged the public to join them to mark the 65th birthday of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

His Majesty ascended the throne as King Rama X of the Royal House of Chakri, succeeding the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on October 13, 2016. He is the only son, the second of four children, of His Majesty King Bhumibol and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn was born in Bangkok on July 28, 1952. He graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Australia. At the age of 20, he was invested as Crown Prince by King Rama IX.

His Majesty accompanied the late King and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on visits to the remote rural areas to help ease local people’s problems. He also represented them in performing various official functions.

Aware of the importance of education, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn supports education and sports development at various levels for young people, who are regarded as the future of the country. He initiated the establishment of a scholarship in 2009. The scholarship program has been operating with his personal funds as well as donated funds presented to him for charitable purposes. The funds have been used to support education for needy students on a continual basis.

Prime Minister General Prayut said that the Government has adopted guidance on education, given by His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn. The guidance will help build a foundation for learners in four key areas.

The first area involves the right views toward the country, with better understanding about nationhood. The second one is that people must uphold moral values and abstain from doing anything immoral. In the third area, they should be engaged in a proper occupation, thus enabling them to support their families. The fourth area involves good citizenship. Families, educational institutions, and workplaces should encourage the people to be good citizens and be ready to contribute to the country.
