Abbot gets warning for tattooing lay persons
THE abbot of Mae Takrai Temple in the northern Thai province of Chiang Mai got a warning from the Ecclesiastical Council after his photos tattooing a woman were posted on social media, Sanook.com reported today (Sept. 16).
The abbot later explained to the council that the person in the photos is in fact a man who had undergone a sex-change operation.
“This person is a man, so I see no reason why I cannot tattoo his body,” said the abbot. “I have not broken any ecclesiastical rules.”
