Drought spreads to Sukhothai

Farmers in Village Group 5 in the central Thai province of Sukhothai are calling on the Irrigation Department to release more water into their ricefields which are now wilting due to drought, the Thai-language daily Khao Sod reported yesterday (July 18, 2019).

One of the affected farmers, Prateep Kongma, said he had to hire water trucks to irrigate his ricefields, which are located far from water sources.

“If there is no rain in the next month, all my plants will die and we all will go into debt,” said Mr. Prateep.
