Female doctor held for illegal abortion
A 55-year-old female doctor was arrested at her clinic in the tourist town of Hua Hin today (March 1) and charged with performing an illegal abortion for a pregnant woman, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported.
The incident first made newspaper headlines on February 13, when a garbage collector found a dead new-born baby in a garbage bin. Public outrage filled local newspaper headlines for several days.
If found guilty, the doctor faces a jail term of not more than 5 years and a fine of not more than 10,000 baht.
