Indonesian tourists held for filing fake theft report

TWO young Indonesian women landed in trouble in Pattaya after filing a false theft report in the hopes of claiming insurance payment back home but were caught red-handed by eagle-eyed police, Sanook.com reported today (August 18, 2018).

The 2 tourists, Miss Malia Siska Phachorenta, 28 and Miss Ranee Nilia, 25, were arrested at their Pattaya hotel at 4 p.m. today after police detectives determined that they had entirely made up the theft they had reported at 10 p.m. on Thursday August 16.

The 2 women had told police that while walking down North Pattaya road a motorcyclist drove up and used a pistol to steal their belongings, consisting of a notebook, a camera, a mobile phone and cash worth altogether 300,000 baht.

However today they confessed that they had fabricated the theft at the suggestion of a friend to use the police report for insurance claim upon returning home.

Pol Col Apichai Krubpetch, head of Pattaya station, warned tourists not to follow their example as it harms Pattaya’s reputation and they would face legal action.
