Many suspects held in a string of drug hauls

ANTI-NARCOTICS police arrested several suspects in a string of large drug busts that netted 700 kilograms of marijuana, 2,700 grams of cocaine, 300,000 methamphetamine pills and 2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), Thai News Agency reported today (June 27, 2018).

National Police Chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda said one interesting case is the arrest of Mr Anondchai Uanwanna and 3 accomplices as they were transporting 600 kilograms of marijuana from northeastern Nakhon Phanom border province to Bangkok at a petrol pump in another northeastern province, Kalasin.

Another suspect, Mr Sanorn Khunthum, was apprehended after he was caught transporting 100 kilograms of compressed marijuana blocks from Nakhon Phanom to clients in Bangkok at a toll gate in Thanyaburi district of adjacent Pathum Thani province.

The 2,700 grams cocaine was seized from the backpack of a Kenyan woman at Suvarnabhumi airport after she had traveled here from Ethiopia via Ethiopia Airline.

Also arrested were 4 Thai suspects after over 100,000 meth pills and 2 kilograms of Ice were seized from them on the Bangkok to southern Chumphon province stretch of Phetkasem highway.

Police also seized 200,000 meth pills discarded at a a housing estate in northern Chiang Rai province.

Pol Gen Chakthip admitted that right now a lot more drug arrests and seizures are being made, especially along northeastern border, with these drugs intended for the South and overseas markets. He has ordered police to intensify their narcotics control strategies.
