Monk disrobed after dining and drinking in restaurant

A 49-year-old Thai Buddhist monk was disrobed today (June 3) after he was caught drinking alcohol in a restaurant in the northeastern Thai province of Nong Khai, INN News reported.

The monk reportedly concealed alcohol in a plastic bottle as he dined in the restaurant. Policemen who took him to the provincial police station found four knives and three more bottles containing alcohol in his cloth bag.

Plainclothes policemen followed the monk to the restaurant after a tip-off by local people that the monk had been eating and drinking in an abandoned house. The monk never talked to the locals nor made his alms-taking rounds in the neighborhood.
