Parks and zoos to ban plastic bags

A BAN on plastic bags and Styrofoam containers will be imposed in all 154 national parks and 8 national zoos around Thailand in the next 1-2 months, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Surasak Kanchanarat said today (August 9, 2018).

Regarding garbage found under the sea around Koh Samui and Koh Tao in Surat Thani province, Mr Surasak has talked with tour and diving operators, who promised to solve the problem.

“Eighty percent of the garbage found in the sea and on the seabed come from the locals and tourists,” said Mr Surasak.

“Tour boat operators agreed to keep enough garbage bags on the boat and deliver it to dump site operators on land,” he added.
