Police raid gambling session at funeral marquee

ACTING on a tip off a police and military team raided a big gambling session at a funeral marquee in southern Satun province at dawn today (April 6), the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.

When Pol Col Vichaphan Chantranond, head of Satun police, and his team of police, army and navy officers arrived, they found the deceased’s body and religious items curtained off up front and behind this were 2 large groups of gamblers betting at makeshift gambling tables.

Police called out that they all should sit down on the floor, but instead of doing that most of the gamblers ran off in different directions into rubber plantations.  Some fled so quickly they left their shoes behind.

However 8 elderly gamblers failed to get away and were arrested.
