Police raid illegal Sukhumvit bar

POLICE raided on a bar in Sukhumvit area which was operating without a permit and beyond the permitted time limit and found 10 patrons, including tourists, to have taken drugs, Thai News Agency reported today (Jan. 18).

At 3.30 am this morning officials from the Subdivision of Child and Women Welfare took a team to search the second floor of a famous Sukhumvit hotel, and initially found that the relatively new bar was operating without a permit and was still open beyond the legal operating hours.

This bar positioned itself a place to come to when other entertainment venues had closed, nevertheless police did not find any patrons younger than 20 years of age at the bar.

A urine test of tourists, women and transvestites found that 10 had taken drugs, and a detailed test is underway to find out what type they took before charges will be filed against them.

The bar owner faces charges of running an entertainment venue with a permit and selling alcohol without a license.
