Rare ruby found in Thai province

THAI gemologists this morning (June 4, 2018) were excited by the discovery of a rare 6.25-carat ruby in Borai district of the southeastern province of Chanthaburi, Sanook.com reported.

“Judging from its appearance, this uncut gemstone, which many Thais call ‘Siamese ruby’ must be worth around one million baht or more,” said Associated Professor Somrudee Satitkhun of Kasetsart University in Bangkok.

The university has already bought the gemstone, Ms Somrudee said, but declined to reveal the exact amount of money that has been spent.

“We are still considering where to display this priceless item,” she added.
