Southbound traffic snarled at Bang Saphan

IT is raining continuously in the South today particularly in Prachuab Khiri Khan’s  Bang Saphan district where all-night showers led to the traffic heading South tailing back for a long distance on Petch Kasem highway , Thai News Agency said today (Jan. 18)

A bottleneck at the single-lane Bailey bridge which the Highways Department had erected last week after floodwater damaged the permanent bridges there led to this traffic gridlock . However the department had expected to complete installing the second Bailey bridge at around noon today and this would help relieve travelers’ hardship.

Meanwhile Bang Saphan Kindergarten opened for the first day today after severe flooding led to its temporary closure from Jan. 9 onwards with the students allowed to attend classes in casual clothes.

Viroj Tokaew, director of the school at Bang Saphan district, said five school buildings, 19 classrooms and various educational materials were damaged by two-meter-high floodwater.

However, Artiwara ‘Toon’ Kongmalai, lead singer of the Bodyslam band, and actress Ratchawin ‘Koy’ Wongviriya were heading to the school today to give encouragement and donate educational and other materials collected from various donors to the students affected by this severe flooding.
