Water bill payment scam in Ubon Ratchathani

THE waterworks office at northeastern Ubon Ratchathani province issued a warning today (Sept. 25) that fraudsters are going around claiming to accept water bill payment with many people having already fallen for this scam, Thai News Agency reported.

Khomsan Boonuam, manager of Ubon Ratchathani Waterworks Office, said these tricksters are going from door to door claiming this is a new service to collect payment from their homes but this agency does not have this sort of a scheme.

The swindle came to light after a person livening Warin Chamrap district complained that his water supply had been cut off even though he had paid his bill for August.

An investigation showed that he had a fake receipt for 700 baht and this receipt was created in early 2016.

There were also two other cases of this fraud over the past two month.

Khomsan urged those who come across these imposters to check their ID cards or take a photo of them, possibly write down the car license number and alert his office so that legal action could be taken. Those who have any questions may call his office at 045-243-910 on weekdays.
