“What’s in the envelope, sir?”

FIFTY policemen attending a Chinese New Year party at the home of a wealthy businessman are under investigation after they were caught on a video queuing up to receive cash from the tycoon, the Thai-language Daily News reported today (Feb. 17).

The policemen are from three different police stations on the outskirts of Bangkok. Dressed in full uniform, they are seen in the video clasping their palms before receiving a red envelope containing 500 baht in cash.

Bangkok Metropolitan police commander Charntep Sesawes said an investigation is under way. “We have to find out if the cash was given willingly by the businessman, and whether it was in violation of the anti-corruption law,” he added.
