Youth shot dead in teen violence

A 17-year-old youth was shot dead in the middle of the night after he and his friend were chased by a rival gang who let loose a hail of gunfire in front of Nawamin soi 68 in Bueng Kum district, Thai News Agency said today (Sept. 1).

Bueng Kum police and Ruamkatanyu rescuers rushed to the scene firefight and found a 17-year-old youth shot in his left arm and he was rushed to a nearby hospital while the other youth was shot in the chest.

Rescuers give him cardiopulmonary resuscitation for 45 minutes but he nevertheless died and his body has been taken for an autopsy.

Eyewitnesses said it was around 1 am when they saw the dead youth and his friend speeding through Nawamin road on a motorcycle and making a U-turn in front of the soi after which another group of teenagers who were wearing crash helmets rode up on their motorbikes and fired over ten shots at the two of them.

Pol. Lt. Col. Natpramot Phumphaiboon, deputy investigation head at Bueng Kum police station, said the dead youth’s friends told him that before the shooting four of them were riding two motorcycles and prior to that the deceased had quarreled  with another group of teenagers but they added that they are uncertain whether this same group shot and killed him.
