Croc alert! 2 Phuket beaches closed
SWIMMING has been strictly forbidden at 2 Phuket beaches after a 2-meter long crocodile was filmed swimming nearby with officials rushing to catch the dangerous reptile, Thai News Agency reported today (July 19, 2018).
A sign has been put up warning residents and tourists to stay away from the sea at Yanui and Nai Harn beaches after some locals, who last evening had gone out fishing in this area but were forced to return by strong waves, spotted the crocodile.
Phuket Governor Noraphat Plodthong ordered all concerned units to catch the crocodile. Taking action was the Mayor of Rawai sub-district Mr Arun Sophat, who together with some officials watched the 2 beaches all night, and saw this croc was swimming up and down just off the 2 beaches.
Mr Arun said aside from putting up the warning sign officials were continuing their beach patrols today. It is as yet not known what species this crocodile is.
