Villagers get electricity after 60 years
It’s a dream come true. After living without electricity for more than 60 years, 201 families in two villages of Si Muangmai District in the northeastern Thai province of Ubon Ratchathani can now watch television while their children do their homework on lap-top computers.
It was a tough job for technicians from the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to install the concrete poles and electricity lines along a 17-kilometer stretch of the rocky mountain. But everyone was all smiles when the job was completed, the villagers told the Thai-language daily Khao Sod today (19 August 2019).
Grade 10 student Rattiya Sunon said the electricity made her life easier. In the past, she had to do her homework under a light bulb connected to a car battery. “I can now do my homework and read on the computer,” she said.
PEA officials responsible for installing the electricity poles said it was a hard job but “it was all worthwhile when we saw the happiness on the faces of these villagers.”
