Cancer No.1 killer among Thais
Cancer has been the No.1 cause of death among Thai people since 1998. The number of new patients this year is 122,757 and 73,000 of them have died, the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported today (5 Dec 2019).
In an interview with the paper, Dr. Piyamit Sitara, dean of Mahidol University’s Medical Department, said he has signed a cooperation agreement with the Cancer Institute to jointly implement an analysis plan and precision treatment for cancer patients.
The two partners will jointly collect blood samples and cancer tissues, look for DNA and the pattern of cancer development, and monitor patients’ reaction to the treatment.
