Thailand VOA cancelled for 18 countries and 3 Visa Exemptions.
Thailand Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha reported on 11 March 2020 new security measures against Covid-19 alongside Anutin Charnvirakul the Minister of Public Health and other related officials. There are 2 quarantine zones for those traveling in from high-risk countries. Travelers must accept the fact that they will have to be quarantined for 14 days. Screenings for Covid-19 patients are now more strict with cooperation from the Immigration Police and officials from the Ministry of Health in airports, borders, and seaports.
Entering the nation is now more complicated as a safety measure in protecting the spread of the Coronavirus. Thailand will now temporarily cancel Visas on Arrival (VOA) for 18 countries that include China (including Taiwan), Bhutan, India, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Fiji, Ethiopia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Malta, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Vanuatu, and Uzbekistan. As for Visa exemptions, 3 countries are now temporarily removed from the list, this includes South Korea, Italy, and Hongkong. There are 10,149 cases in Italy, 7,755 cases in South Korea, and 121 in Hongkong according to Worldometers 11 March 2020, 10.50 GMT.
Anupong Paochinda the Minister of Interior stated: “People from these countries will have to apply for visas at the Thai embassies who will ensure that those infected will not come to Thailand”. The PM further stated that government procedures will begin at the airports. Travelers will return to their homes by secure vehicles organized by the Ministry of Transport. There will be no stops allowed along the way. Each province will perform inspections to households and officials including the provincial governor will be ordered to keep track of where these travelers are to protect from those intending to break their quarantine.
