Tourist dies in jet-ski collision at Patong Bay

A CHINESE tourist died after the jet-ski he was zipping around at Patong Bay this afternoon (Jan. 14) collided with the one his friend was riding, Amarin TV said.

At 2:30 p.m, Pol. Lt. Col. Thapapon Paengphimlo, an investigation officer at Patong police station, was alerted by a jet-ski hire operator that two water vessels foreign tourists had rented had collided at Patong Bay in front of Loma public park.

Lifeguards rescued Mr. Liu Hong Chao, 33, and as he was seriously injured Patong municipality rescue team and Phuket Kusoldtham Foundation rescuers quickly rushed him to Patong Hospital but he later died there.

Investigation revealed that the collision occurred around 200 metres from the coast with the jet-ski Mr. Lyu Zhifebg, 28, was riding hitting the one his friend was zooming on in the sea.

Police also inspected the collision marks on the jet-skis as evidence.

Lyu Zhifebg is currently being questioned by police as are eyewitnesses on the beach and the jet-ski hire operator.

The Chinese embassy has been informed so that the deceased tourist’s relatives could arrange his funeral.
