Abandoned baby’s cries alert helper

SAMPRAN District police in Nakhon Pathom province are looking for the mother of a new-born baby girl found abandoned on a roadside by a villager shortly after midnight last night (Feb. 1), the Thai-language daily Thai Rath reported.

“I heard non-stop baby cries and decided to investigate,” said the villager. “I was shocked to see her wailing, with ant bites all over her body.”

Judging from the way the baby’s umbilical cord was cut, police investigators believe the mother gave birth at home, after which she wrapped the newborn girl in a blanket, put her in a cardboard box, and abandoned her.
