At least 10,000 victims fall for hotel voucher scam sold at 20 THB.
There are at least 10,000 victims who have fallen for a hotel voucher scam sold at 20 THB. Each voucher is worth 900 THB but the scammer advertised it can be used at the hotels for 900 THB sold at only 20 THB per voucher. Rachapol Sirisakon a lawyer helped 30 victims file reports with the police at the Central investigation Bureau. The victims purchased vouchers that claimed they can be used at different hotels and restaurants in Pattaya City, Chonburi Province. Reports were filed in February but there has been no updates to the case. A a representative of the victims stated the voucher was advertised it could be used at different pool villas, 5 start hotels, and different tourist attractions in Pattaya.
They were sold online through a Facebook page and agents. At first the vouchers worked as claimed but then in November 2021 hotels and businesses started to deny accepting the vouchers. The businesses claimed the company who issues the vouchers has not been paying them for their goods and services. The company would always claim they had some issues and could not pay the businesses. About 700 names have been confirmed as victims and police believe there are at least 10,000 victims who have purchased the vouchers.
The lawyer stated “The voucher seems impossible. Worth 900 THB but sold at 20 THB. What happened is probably due to bad planning by the company. Whether it is intentional or not we do not know. It is police duty to inspect this case and they shouldn’t let it stay silent for any longer”. Police state they are collecting evidence from victims. The case will require some time as there are a lot of victims. The investigation will continue until they find out who is behind the company. Evidence will then be used to request for an arrest warrant from the court.
