Cheap PPE scam with over 800K in damages.

A man has been arrested after he advertised cheap PPE on Facebook. The suspect received over 3,000 orders but he did not actually have any product to sell. Damages account to over 800,000 THB. The Crime Suppression Division arrested the suspect after he went into hiding. Police Major General Suwant Sangnum gave orders to Police Colonel Bunlue Padunthin, and other related officials to arrest Komsun Sunjan 28-year-old wanted by an arrest warrant No.13/2564 issued by the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Court on 13 January 2021. The suspect is facing charges relating to fraud and more.

Komsun was arrested at a home located in Ban Kai District, Rayong Province. In 2020 Komsun posted on Facebook pictures of PPE stating that he could find cheap PPE sets for 250 THB per piece. A victim saw his post and believed the advertisement. This victim ordered 3,000 PPE sets and transferred 800,000 into the suspect’s bank account. Komsun accepted the order and promised there was a source for the PPE sets, all ready to ship. The victim believed him and made the big order intending that the PPE would be useful during the current Covid-19 situation at the time.

When time came Komsun had no product to ship. When the victim asked where his delivery was, Komsun tried to say that the shipment was delayed. Then finally Komsun disappeared and went into hiding. The victim went to file a report with the Nakhon Ratchasima Police. An investigation was started that led to the arrest. Komsun has denied all charges relating to the case. The victim has been delivered to the Nakhon Ratchasima City Police Station waiting for prosecution. PPE is short for Personal Protective Equipment. It is mainly used by healthcare workers such as doctors, nurses, and those who work inside a hospital or around Covid-19 cases. The PPE works as a barrier between the user’s body and the viral infection. PPE must meet the government regulations.
