Cyber police arrest 3 loan sharks in Nakhon Ratchasima.
The cyber police searched 3 homes and found 3 loan sharks in Thung Yai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Pol. Lt.Gen. Worawat Wattanakornbancha ordered related officials to search 3 homes with search warrants in the Province. Inside the first home police arrested Kittipong 31 years old. Kanyakorn 35 years old was arrested in the second home, and Pimpa 36 years old was arrested in the third home. Evidence was also found including phones and a list of debtors and details of the borrowed money and interest. There are books detailing the information, inside the first book the suspect wrote down how much she owned the principal “investor” which is 200,000 THB.
The investor is the person who hands the loan sharks their money to further lend to other people. The second book detailed the names of people who owed them money and the interest rate is at 20%. The documents provided proof that they have been collecting interest rates that are way above the legal rate. There are also daily debtors who had to pay interest every day. Police received information online after seeing Facebook accounts inviting persons to invest in shares. They also invited netizens to borrow money. Those who were interested were pulled into a group where the initial investment was set at 10,000 THB.
There were threatening posts made online against the debtors. These posts threatened to harm debtors and to share information online that could discredit the debtors. They also posted pictures and videos online revealing who owed them money. The loan shark’s friends would comment negatively on these posts further embarrassing the debtors. Pimpa admitted that the documents were written by her. She has been acting as a loan shark charging unrealistic interest rates. The suspects have violated the Act Prohibiting the Charging of Excessive Interest Rates B.E. 2560 (2017). They have all been delivered to the Thung Yai Police Station waiting for prosecution.
