Dengue fever in Samut Songkram
THE Samut Songkram provincial health center today (June 12, 2018) issued a statement warning locals and visitors about the spread of dengue fever in the coastal city, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported.
Fifty-seven patients were admitted to the provincial hospital during January1-May 31, 2018. One of them, an 11-year-old girl, died. She was one of 25 primary school students affected by the disease.
A mosquito-borne disease, mild dengue fever causes a high fever, rash, and muscle and joint pain. A severe form of dengue fever, also called dengue hemorrhagic fever, can cause severe bleeding, a sudden drop in blood pressure (shock) and death, said Matichon.
