Drought hits farming and tourism
Severe drought is causing problems for farmers and the tourism industry in the northeastern Thai province of Nakhon Phanom.
Water in the Mekong River is at its lowest level compared with in previous years, the Thai-language daily Matichon reported yesterday (Dec 2, 2019). The problem is caused by drought and the containment of water behind dams in China.
Ferries on the Thai side have stopped their services, but tourists keep coming to view the river, whose color has turned blue.
