Night Safari training up youths to work as guides
(Matichon) – With tourism expanding by leaps and bounds in Chiang Mai, a program to train student volunteer guides for the Chiang Mai Night Safari was launched today (Feb. 26).
Undertaken by Pinkanakorn Development Agency with Chaitawat Saowaphon, chairman of the subcommittee overseeing Chiang Mai Night Safari presiding over the opening of the training session, a total of 40 students and youths from 13 to 25 years of age are being trained in this new skill.
They were selected from communities around this agency and the safari and will be given information about tourism particularly in the upper Northern Thailand aside from knowledge about the animals at the safari. Moreover they will also be trained in public speaking, languages, ways to be service-minded plus attending a workshop.
This group of 40 trainees will be given a real job at the safari working there as guides on holidays and weekends from this month till September 2017 with their working hours being from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Mr Chaitawat added that this is Thailand’s first nocturnal zoo and is the biggest such park in the world covering 819 rai of land. However, there have been changes as it is now open day and night.
According to Wikipedia, Chiang Mai Night Safari is operated by Pinkanakorn Development Agency, subordinated to the Prime Minister’s Office. The safari opened in 2006 in conjunction with the Royal Flora Expo 2006 in order to promote Chiang Mai tourism. It is the second night safari in the world following the Night Safari in Singapore.
