The incident took place on the 4th of May 2019 when Karen Vinacour 79 years old and her daughter came in to dine at Patsy’s Pizza. Apparently, Karen had an issue with the pictures of famous people on the wall. The pictures were a combination of famous customers who have come to dine at Patsy’s Pizza in the past.

Karen asked Armando who was the waiter for her table to why there were so little pictures of women on the wall. Armando replied that it might be because women didn’t like Pizza as much as men did. The answer seemed to start a fire inside Karen and her daughter. Karen and her daughter ended up not tipping after the service. It is well known that in USA tipping is a common cultural manner, the recommended tip is at 20% of the food price but it also depends on the service that you have received from the restaurant and what type of business it is.

When Armando came to clear the table after Karen and her daughter left, he found an envelope lying on the table with no tip and a note on the bill that said: “women don’t tip”. He opened the envelope and saw that there was a check inside for 424,000 USD which is about 13 Million THB. The check had no specific name written on the check, anyone could’ve cashed the check with the bank.

As soon as Armando saw what was inside the envelope, he ran outside but the Karen and her daughter were gone. Armando then ran back into the restaurant and gave the check to Frank Brija, the owner of Patsy’s Pizza. Karen ended up calling the wrong Patsy’s Pizza and was extremely stressed as it could lead her to bankruptcy.

The check came from Karen selling her apartment. The money from the check was to be used as a downpayment for her new condo and to pay her daughter’s school debt. Patsy’s waited for a few days until they decided to contact the local newspaper. Finally, they found out what Karen’s phone number was and gave her a call.

Karen apologized to Armando for not giving him a tip and tried to give him some money as a kind gesture. Armando would not accept the money and stated that he was happy to successfully return the check as he believed in Karma. Frank Brija took a picture of Karen and hung it on the wall in Patsy’s Pizza the next day.
