Big event to draw Chinese tourists in H2 taking place soon
IN celebrating 50 years of Thai-Chinese relations the government is launching a big event, “Sawadee Ni Hao”, to attract more Chinese tourists to Thailand in the second half of this year, TV Channel 7 said this morning (May 22).
Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, deputy government spokesperson, said over 13 million foreign tourists visited the country in less than five months of this year’s first half generating more than 630 billion baht in revenue.
It was noteworthy that from Jan. 1 to May 18, 2025, the number of South Korean tourists travelling to Thailand increased by 10% and collectively moved up from the eight to the fourth place. The number of tourists from China and India also increased by 2.18 percent and 1.34 percent, respectively.
Last week 464,531 foreign tourists came to the country and the top five countries are Malaysia with 68,738 arrivals, China with 62,569, India with 50,571, South Korea with 18,213, and Laos with 17,034.
“As for measures to attract Chinese tourists to return to visit Thailand throughout the year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is preparing to organise a major event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China,” she said.
The event, entitled “Sawasdee Ni Hao” and taking place from May 28 to June 1, 2025, will bring 300 Chinese tour operators and 200 key opinion leaders(KOLS)/influencers from 25 to 30 provinces to meet and negotiate with 500 Thai tour operators.
