BMA continues removing collapsed building debris, still hoping for survivors
BANGKOK Governor Chadchart Sittipant said today (Apr. 9) that the operation to clear the State Audit building which collapsed during the March 29 earthquake is continuing with the goal now being to remove as much of concrete slabs and debris from Zone E, which is right on top, as possible with this expected to be completed by end of this month, Amarin TV said.
Heavy machinery are working at full capacity round the clock and so far approximately 26,000 cubic metres of debris have been removed by using 21 trucks.
Chadchart emphasized that Bangkok Metropolitan Authority always hopes for survivors with these machines working all the time.
As for the crew, BMA is taking full care of them including providing food, rest area with an air-conditioned room to sleep in. City officials are also very strict about hygiene, emphasising that workers have to wash their hands and spray various disinfectants because the large site is like a city with hundreds of people living there.
He also mentioned that the withdrawal of the K9 USAR Thailand rescue dog team does not affect the work because it is already moving according to plan.
Right now it is the machinery which is the mainstay of the operation and they are working all the time.
