POLICE at Bangkok’s Makkasan district have taken legal action against a group of Chinese youths who rented three to five water trucks and blasted high-pressure water at other Songkran revellers thus endangering them, TV Channel 7 said today (Apr. 14).

This became a hot topic on Thai social media after Drama Addict and The Momentum Facebook pages highlighted the danger.

The Chinese youth sat on top of these water trucks and sprayed high-pressure water at other people in RCA entertainment zone, Sukhumvit and Sanam Luang areas.

Hit by powerful water jets were motorcyclists and passers-by who shouted and begged them to stop, despite this the Chinese youths did not listen but this could be due to communication problems, The Momentum said.

Later Drama Addict posted a message: “Regarding news that Chinese people rented trucks to spray water in celebrating Songkran, disturbing residents in Makkasan zone, Makkasan police station would like to inform that they are not sitting still and have taken action.”

This police station also mentioned that they have arranged for 129 officers to take care of orderliness during Songkran Festival in their area of jurisdiction during April 11-17.
