Koh Chang busy during Songkran 2022

Koh Chang Island is extremely busy during Songkran 2022 with over 30,000 tourists so far and a wait time of at least 2 hours for the ferry. Officials are reminding visitors that plastic is not allowed on the island to help preserve the natural environment. From 12-14 April 2022 a total of 23,874 visitors have entered the island. 4,271 cars have also entered the island through the ferry services. For the 15th there are over 5,000 visitors and about 1,500 cars. As a result a long line of cars waiting to leave Koh Chang Island are lining up to enter the ferry at the Pineapple Bay Pier and the Ban Dan Kao Pier. 

 

 

The average wait time is over 2 hours and the line is over 2.5 kilometers long. The line starts at the pier to the Mu Ko Chang National Park. Police Colonel Wallop Kangtharatip from the Koh Chang Police Station stated there are a lot of cars entering the island during Songkran. Some want to leave the island as they entered since the beginning of the week. More vehicles are lining up to leave creating a wait time of at least 1-2 hours. The police have worked with related officials to help provide support and services to visitors. The main goal is safety and to make sure the wait line is fair. Water is also available at all times. 

 

 

Dusit Samutpong from the National Park stated there is a lot of visitors. Most are visiting inside the national park including the waterfalls, snorkeling areas, and other islands in the area. The park is making sure that safety comes first. This includes safety measures against the spread of Covid-19. Visitors must follow the guidelines to help protect themselves and others on the island. There is also a rule against plastic waste inside the national park. This is to help preserve the natural environment. Visitors are following guidelines and safety regulations with no problems.
