The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration has reported on 22 December 2021 that Thailand now has 104 Covid-19 Omicron variant cases. The center also confirms that the country will not be closing down again, but safety measures will be enhanced. Doctor Sumanee Wacharasin from the Department of Disease Control reported the daily Covid-19 situation update touching on the subject of the Omicron variant. All of the cases have received medical care and some have already made a full recovery.
Starting from 22 December 2021, tourists entering the country will no longer be able to join the Test and Go project and Sandbox. Tourists are still allowed in the country as long as they quarantine and will still be able to join the Sandbox program only in Phuket. As for the group that has previously registered to enter into the country, about 200,000 persons can come into the country following the same regulations as before. Groups entering the country afterwards will have to follow more strict safety measures. These measures include getting a RT-PCR test once arrived in Thailand. If the test is negative they can continue into the country following a condition that they must be available for contact at all times. This is to follow up on any symptoms that may develop and must be transparent at the exact locations they are at.
All must have the application MorChana downloaded onto their phones. They must also return for another RT-PCR test on the 5th or 6th date before the 7th date deadline. The Center will consider the safety regulations once again on 4 January 2022. Government workers are also not allowed to travel abroad during this time unless necessary. It is also advised that Thai’s planning to travel abroad into the EU, USA, and other nations with the Omicron variant should receive ATK tests before traveling. It is even advised to take an ATK test before returning to home provinces during the New Year’s as a safety precaution to keep loved ones safe.
